I completed my Capstone experience at Vincentian Schenley Gardens in the memory care unit. Vincentian offers a variety of activities for residents to participate in. The staff were very welcoming and really cared for the residents. I would recommend this facility to others.
My parents were residents for 8 months and it was not a good experience. There were medication issues (late/missed), lack of housekeeping, staff sleeping in common areas during work hours, laundry room/garbage area cleanliness issues, broken down appliances, courtyard/outside spaces in disrepair, dismissive staff and resistence to outside providers for hospice care. The intergenerational living highlighted is very limited.
Great place for residents and the workers are all kind and sweet!
My mother-in-law lived at Vincentian Schenley Gardens in the memory care unit. The facility has been consistently short-staffed in the memory care unit—often with only one aide responsible for 14 residents. This level of staffing leads to delayed care, long response times, and visible strain on the staff who are present. These issues have been ongoing, not temporary lapses. Despite repeatedly raising concerns with management, we found them uncooperative and unwilling to take meaningful action. Instead of solutions, we received dismissive responses and little follow-through. Had it not been for a private duty aide we arranged for my mother-in-law, her comfort and well-being would have been severely compromised. Families entrust loved ones to facilities like this with the expectation of safe, attentive care—an expectation that Vincentian Schenley Gardens has not met. While some staff members are hardworking and caring, the chronic understaffing and lack of accountability from management make this an unsafe and unreliable choice. We have since moved my mother-in-law to another facility where the staff-to-resident ratio is appropriate and residents’ needs are met with care and attentiveness. It is also worth noting that many positive reviews appear to have been written by staff in an effort to boost ratings, which makes it difficult for families to rely on Google reviews when making such an important decision.
Namely, I think they could do better with planning activities for people with dementia like my mother-in-law. They really try to work with her about food but she is really difficult.
I cannot say enough wonderful things about Vincentian Schenley Gardens. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warmth, professionalism, and a true sense of community. The staff here goes above and beyond to ensure that residents receive not just exceptional care, but genuine love and respect. What sets Schenley Gardens apart is their person-centered approach towards residents--they take the time to know each resident as an individual, tailoring care to their preferences and needs. The communication with families and caretakers is also excellent and I know people feel reassured knowing their loved ones are in such capable and caring hands. Highly recommend!
Vincentian Schenley Gardens is a lovely facility with a great location. They have strong activities and programming that help to engage residents with their peers, reduce social isolation, and make it an enjoyable place to live. They also have intergenerational living with graduate students, making this a unique setting! Such a perk!
The admissions director, Brenton, was amazing! The location where our family members were living announced they were closed 3 weeks after they arrived. Because of our unique situation, we had few options that could accept the 2 of them quickly. Brenton (and Shirley at the Perrymont location) went above and beyond to help us find an option that worked for us! They were extremely caring and helpful. The facility was clean, well maintained, and even the unrenovated rooms were nicer than where they were before. We ultimately found a different place, but that is not because of anything lacking at Vincentian. One of the most important criteria for an assisted living facility is the kindness of the staff. Without going into details, I can honestly say that Brenton went above and beyond on that one. Should our needs change (again), we will be calling Vincentian.
