I am in total disbelief at the lack of basic human decency at Westmoreland Hospital. My prayers are with every individual that has the misfortune of having to be treated at this facility. Rather than explain step by step the indignities that took place. Below is a copy of the complaint being submitted. All Concerned, I am writing to formally log a serious complaint regarding the treatment my family and I received at Westmoreland Hospital on August 26, 2026. This was the worst experience I have ever witnessed in the healthcare industry, and I am requesting an immediate investigation into the unprofessional, uncaring, and dishonest conduct of one of your nursing staff members. My 71-year-old mother-in-law, who recently lost her husband, was transported to your facility from a rehabilitation center after experiencing chest pains and signs of a stroke. Because I am active-duty military assigned to a unit in Missouri, I had to drive from Missouri to Pennsylvania in order to see her during my limited leave. She has no other family nearby who can visit consistently outside of her son, who works multiple jobs. Due to the travel distance, my adult son and I arrived at the hospital at approximately 7:00 PM. Less than five minutes after we reached her room, two aides arrived to transport her for an MRI. We assured her we would wait for her return. While she was away, my son went to the car to retrieve a phone charger as it was my intention to stay overnight. When he attempted to return, the security guard, Tim, denied him entry after consulting with the third-floor nurses' station. When I went to the nurses' station to find out what was happening, it was abandoned. I eventually located my mother-in-law's nurse, Nicole, outside another patient's room. When I explained that my son was locked downstairs, Nicole coldly responded, "Yeah that's right and you have to leave too. Visiting hours are over." I explained our situation and that we had not yet been able to visit our loved one, but she stated that unless my mother-in-law was in hospice care, we had to leave. When I repeatedly asked to speak with a charge nurse or a director of nursing, Nicole refused to contact anyone and threatened to call security if I did not leave. Fortunately, I encountered another nurse, Eric, who showed compassion, listened to the situation, and called down to security to allow my son back upstairs. However, upon my son's return, Nicole continued to insist we leave without saying goodbye. When I asked Eric who was in charge, he pointed out the charge nurse, Brooke. Nicole immediately approached Brooke and told a blatant lie to justify her actions, falsely claiming that I had entered another patient's room to confront her. Brooke advised me that while she personally had no problem with us staying, she would defer to Nicole. Due to the situation drawing attention from surrounding staff, Nicole reluctantly granted us 10 minutes to visit. My mother-in-law returned from her MRI at approximately 8:45 PM. When she realized we were being forced to leave and asked Nicole about it, Nicole deflected blame by stating, "It's not my rules and I'll get in trouble if they stay." We were forced to hug her and leave immediately. The lack of empathy, the outright refusal to escalate my request to management, and the fabrication of events by Nurse Nicole are completely unacceptable. Immediate retraining or replacement is necessary to ensure that other families and patients are not subjected to this standard of care. I expect a prompt response detailing how this matter will be addressed. Sincerely, Concerned daughter n law and active duty service member

Labor and Delivery has absolutely terrible bedside manner. A male doctor that came in didn't even wear gloves or ask permission to touch me. He didn't was his hands when he came in the room either. Whatever nurse attended me didn't let me explain where my pain was. She kept assuming I said something I didn't say and kept cutting me off and interrupting. She had a terrible attitude as well. Any other times I've been to this hospital for anything staff has been professional and kind. Idk what's wrong with labor and delivery but If that's how their staff is I don't want to give birth here. There…

Any other times I've been to this hospital for anything staff has been professional and kind. She was literally the only nice one I met on that floor. I do not recommend.

Put me on a medication I’ve never had before in the er department told them it was to sting I couldn’t drive and I quote that’s not our problem so they give you meds push you out so you can come back in 12 minutes later in an accident so they can double charge you and if you complain about it, they poke fun at you in a letter. I have the physical proof they poked at my IQ the way I talk and the fact that I’m an agoraphobic and made it to the emergency room is amazing on itself. they poked at my IQ the way I talk and the fact that I’m a agoraphobic and made it to the emergency room is amazing…

I left one star because there is no way to give a zero. My husband was taken there by ambulance 6 days ago. They found pneumonia said he needed admitted. My husband has had 2 strokes and has trouble communicating. He also has major heart problems. They sent him to the 3rd floor because he need a monitored bed I was told. I explained I need to be called and told things about his care because he could not communicate. The Hospitalists were awful. Most of the nurses treated me with rudeness because I asked so many questions. The Hospitalists rarely called me back. I was told by someone of authority that this is how hospitals work now and what nursing care was. His pulmonary doctor was wonderful and I lived him. He had a procedure on day 6 and I was told to be there at 9. They did not take him till 2:45. I then waited till after 5:30 because they said the doctor would call me when he was done. We were also told he could go home afterward. My husband was brought back at 5:45 but I still did not know what was going on and he couldn't tell me. When I went and asked what was happening they said the doctor would eith come in sometime that evening or in the morning. I made the decision to take my husband and leave and asked for the Hospitalist to come and talk to us. No one did. They did come and give us discharge instructions and his prescriptions and finally the Gastroenterologist did come and give me a report I told him I would not be back and I have found other doctors to replace them. I have reported this facility to the state and my insurance company and am in process of taking it to a state senator. You should not be allowed to give medical care to even a dog. I have posted this everywgere and I am astonished at the number of people responding with similar experiences. Stay away from this place please

We had our first son here, and our day nurse, Abby, was absolutely amazing. We also had two different night nurses during our stay, and they were wonderful as well. They took great care of us, made sure we had everything we needed, and were so good with our baby. We will definitely be back when we have more children. Every nurse and doctor we had during our time here was amazing and genuinely seemed to care about both us and our baby. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience.

My father was admitted to this facility from St. Anne’s in early June. The staff in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) provided him with excellent care and closely monitored his condition. Although he was in a critical state, he stabilized to a reasonable extent. Subsequently, he was transferred to the step-down unit, followed by the telemetry unit, where he ultimately passed away. Regrettably, following his transfer from the ICU, his condition appeared to deteriorate. I experienced significant issues with communication; there were inconsistencies in the information I received regarding his care, and at times, I felt that our concerns were not adequately addressed. Additionally, we were not granted access to his medical records. Upon the passing of my father, we were not informed in a timely manner. I discovered his demise by entering his room to visit and realizing the unfortunate circumstance after being told he was “fine” that same morning. Initially, we were told, “It just happened… it occurred some time ago.” This lack of clarity was particularly distressing. Moreover, on the day of his death, the attending nurse did not return to communicate with us directly; instead, another nurse (Jaycee) was sent to address us in a manner that lacked sincerity. As she departed, she dismissively stated, “Have a great night.” This comment was profoundly inappropriate, given the circumstances of our unexpected loss. Maybe it was his time to go, but I felt like the hospital could have done a little better job towards the end. Very disappointed.

Terrible

The ER staff was wonderful. My son was having a pretty bad allergic reaction and the nurses and staff made us feel very comfortable in a very scary situation. Thank you to everyone who helped us in any way today!
