While it is too soon to review the care, wanted to give a shout out to Patty in admissions, hence the 5 stars. A friend and I visited without an appointment prior to a family member's placement. Patty took us into her office and answered all our questions with no feeling of being hurried or dismissed. Patty is definitely an asset to the facility.

PT and OT was awesome!! Prisoners ate better looking food than these patients. The pineapple was brown, and smelled. My dad was having catheter pain, and he hit the nurses button. He waited two hours for them to see him. The only reason they did was because my sister came in and got them. They cleaned him up, and he had a bed sore. My sister cleaned him after an aid did, and there was dried feces on his bed sore. He was soiled with feces still. He was never taken out of his bed to sit in a chair. This resulted in him losing muscle mass in his legs. He went home not walking. We took him out of…

The other night he was disoriented and thought he was there again. He was scared be ause of that. The two aids that were nice were Alyssa, and Maddie. I liked Jon the nurse!

Our family chose Friendship Village of South Hills because we were repeatedly assured that it offered a continuum of care and that residents could age in place as their needs changed. Unfortunately, our experience was very different from what was promised. Our parents moved into the independent living building in 2018, and when the memory care facility opened in 2019, our father became its first resident. We believed we had found a community where he could live out the rest of his life, regardless of how his dementia progressed. The marketing materials and sales presentations emphasized that all levels of care were available and that residents would not have to leave the community as their health declined. As our father's dementia advanced, however, Friendship Village ultimately told us they could no longer care for him and required him to leave. This was devastating for our family and completely contrary to the expectations that were created when we chose the facility. We made a major financial and emotional commitment based on the promise that he would be able to remain there throughout the progression of his disease. The forced move was extremely difficult for him. After having to leave the community he had called home for years, he was transferred to another facility. He passed away just 90 days later in June 2025. Our family will always believe that being uprooted from familiar caregivers, surroundings, and routines during the most vulnerable stage of his illness contributed to his decline. While the facilities themselves are attractive and well-maintained, appearances do not make up for what we feel were misleading assurances about aging in place. Families considering Friendship Village should ask very specific questions about what happens when a resident's care needs exceed the services currently available and get those answers in writing. We feel deeply disappointed that, after trusting their promises and building our lives around their continuum-of-care model, our father was forced to leave at the time he needed stability and familiar surroundings the most.

On this Memorial Day, I want to honor my father, a proud veteran who deserved dignity, compassion, and proper care in the final chapter of his life. Sadly, our experience at this facility was deeply disappointing and heartbreaking. Families should be very cautious of the marketing promises made here. The facility presents itself as a place where loved ones can age with support and security, but when my father’s dementia progressed into the difficult late stages that so many families eventually face, we found out those promises had limits. Instead of receiving the specialized compassion and care he needed, he was ultimately forced out. Dementia is not convenient. It is painful, unpredictable, and emotionally exhausting for families. Facilities that advertise memory care should be prepared to handle those realities with professionalism, patience, and humanity. Before trusting this community with someone you love, ask hard and specific questions about how they handle advanced dementia behaviors. Do not rely solely on the polished tours and sales presentations. Our family learned the hard way that appearance and promises do not always equal compassionate care.

There are no perfect institutions, least of all skilled nursing or inpatient rehabilitation. But I'd choose Friendship Village again (while not ever wanting a reason to return!) The aides and nursing staff are hardworking , skilled, compassionate. Food is varied and tasty, and the PT & OT staff are excellent. Mandy, the Administrative Assistant, went above and beyond to help with my transition to home. A good place to work on recovery from my broken ankle.

Beware. This space looks fabulous, but that comes at the expense of patient care. My parents bought into this community in 2018 for hundreds of thousands of dollars on the promise that they could stay there forever. Not so. My dad was one of the first residents of the memory care unit opened in 2019, and was kicked out in 2025 when he began to display unwanted dementia behaviors. He died 90 days after we moved him to another facility. The police were called twice on an 85 year old man with end-stage dementia. The “health center” was not an option for him, according to the memory care director (not a physician). If the sales team tells you that your loved one can stay until they die, don’t believe them. They hold all the cards despite their sales pitch promises.

Grateful that Friendship Village had a readily available bed/private for me early January. I suffered a complex ankle fracture and have been here just shy of a month. I have had wonderful encounters with every member of nursing, physical/OT therapy, admissions and social work. Nursing aids worked tirelessly and offered generous assistance. The team has worked cooperatively to assist my healing, provide skilled nursing and help me to get a leg up, literally. The front desk staff offered wonderful support on a daily basis, always with a smile. Activities team was always warm and inviting! I have friends who reside in independent living and it was a great luxury to have them visit so easily. The in-house hair salon made it so easy to maintain a feminine look! All volunteers that I encountered were delightful and so willing to help. The team seeks to make improvements wherever possible. Security was available and secured the location. Transportation arrange for a wheel chair van for my first post op visit during the snowstorm!Thank you Friendship Village

A family member is currently a resident in the Health Center (skilled nursing), after needing more care following 7 years as a resident in their independent living community. We are continuously impressed by the caring staff, management, and high-quality facilities. Nothing is perfect in life of course, but we feel blessed to have mom in such a good place. THANK YOU to all the front line staff that work incredibly hard every day (often times in challenging circumstances) to care for our loved ones!
