The staff was the biggest plus, the staff are wonderful. The location was convenient, easy parking, very nice outdoor space for visits and we would recommend this community to other families based on the experience we have had.
My mother is going to Friends Home in Kennett. The director was very nice. They had a nice front porch. The staff during the tour seemed very upbeat and knew a lot about Kennett Square. They have little outings from time to time. They have a beauty parlor. When we walked around, we only saw one other person there. Then my mom went for a luncheon at a later date. She said the people were friendly enough. The whole place needs updating. It's an old building. They just put new elevators in. The dining area was kind of old. The facility looked pretty clean. I'm kind of surprised my mom chose this…

She said the people were friendly enough. The whole place needs updating. It's an old building. They just put new elevators in. The dining area was kind of old. The facility looked pretty clean. I'm kind of surprised my mom chose this place, but she is just going to go for a month and try it out. I wouldn't choose it for myself. Her room is just a simple one little room with a bathroom and it has no kitchenette, refrigerator, or microwave, nothing like that.
My main problem with Friénd's Home is that most of the people here are much older than me. The average age is mid to late 80's.The community would be better for someone older.
Friends Home in Kennett is a smaller, caring community, with a more home-like atmosphere. They go out of their way to accommodate special needs of residents.
I had been to Friends Home in Kennett to tour it. It's convenient. It's right in the middle of town, it's not too far from the senior center, and it's not too far from my son. I haven't met any of the staff except for the lady that shows you around the place, and she was very helpful. The amenities they offer are meals and laundry. I also saw the salon and the courtyard. I think the upkeep was pretty good. I'm only good for one bedroom, plus I don't need anything else, but it was adequate. In terms of location, they got a lot of restaurants up and down the street. They got all kinds of little hospitals and then they got the big hospital.
Overall my family member is happy at Friends Home. It's a warm and friendly place. Both the residents and the staff are lovely. She has had some leaks in her apartment. And there have been issues with cleanliness and food service - both related to short-staffing. But other than that, it's a very comfortable and friendly place. They're trying to resolve any issues, so I'm hoping things will get better moving forward. And my loved one is content there.
I would recommend this facility to other families. I will say, it wouldn't be the best fit for a resident who likes to stay pretty active. The residents here seem less active and content with kind of doing their own thing or simple things. They do have activities, but they're mostly card games. My mom has mentioned she'd like to have more of a variety, but is ok with the card games for the most part. The staff has been really good. They are friendly and caring, they've been wonderful. The facility is very clean. They do a weekly deep clean, but also check in daily, which is very helpful and appreciated. Common areas are very clean also. It always smells good when I go to visit. The food is good, I've eaten there a couple of times. Mom's only complaint is that the food itself isn't always hot enough. Good value for the cost. I would recommend this facility to others.
We prayed for the right home for mom. We looked at our 3 options with mom as we knew this would be her new home, not ours. We definitely made the right choice! Mom said "I'm Home" at the end of the tour at Friends Home in Kennett! She has the love, peace, and joy that I haven't seen in a long time after being a widow for many years. All the staff are amazing in how they use their God given gifts and talents to take care of mom and the other wonderful residents! It's nice to see the residents build loving relationship's, and community at this stage of life. It doesn't stop there though, the staff are part of the relationship's which is so encouraging! We are so Blessed that Mom found Friends Home in Kennett as her home until she goes Home to be with her Lord and Savior!
