The care my mother received while living 2+ years at the Meadows (assisted living) was quite good. The aides and nurses genuinely did care about her well-being (although one of her necklaces did walk away at some point). The same can't be said about the management hence the negative review. I'm well aware it's a business, but when she passed, there was no acknowledgment from management – not even a card or how to clear out the unit (which they still charge for even at death). We were never able to have a meal with her in the dining hall (even if we paid for it) as their policy didn't allow…

We were never able to have a meal with her in the dining hall (even if we paid for it) as their policy didn't allow it. Social activities are available if one wants to partake in them. Maintenance, like having a light bulb replaced, was spotty and required numerous calls. With the price exceeding $12,000/month, there are other facilities that are definitely worth looking into. Also, make sure that anything of value is NOT kept at any facility where other people have access to the unit.

Helen gets the care she is needing however dut to the frequent changes of nurses on her floor and very few on weekends, ther are times when we must ask for her to get the help she needs. However, all in all, she is well taken care of and safe in that environment. As for the question of price, I have nothing to compare it to, but I do have an issue with being charged extra for her laundry being done (so I do it at home), extra charges though minimal for use of a TV and telephone. There are also charges for OTC meds prescribed for my wife and I am being charged by the pharmacy rather than it…

Management from the very top down at the Meadows, is excellent and always keeps an open mind to concerns that I as the husband of my wife with Alzheimers may have. Paul Weininger

Staff is kind and knowledgeable.

Awful facility! Don't even try to communicate with Dan Freed. He is controlling and not at all empathetic. My mom was in there in 2021. She got the worst wounds you can imagine and one day, I received a call from one of the staff members claiming that my mom was "refusing" to get up for her therapy. I could hear her screaming! I mean screaming!!! I directed the person to call 911 to get her to the ER and that is when we discovered the wounds on her back side (6 inches long and as deep as a golf ball) and a bad one on her heel too, that subsequently took me over a year to help her heal from while she was healing from back surgery (I had to take off from work for more than a year). Three times a week to the wound center with each visit costing $1,000 because of the fact that the wound doc said she could not sit at all until the wounds were healed so we had to go by ambulance. Nightmare! How do these places still have 5 stars on the Medicare website?

Need to keep in mind that this overall assisted living/nursing home system has many issues, cost is $$$$ ($[removed]K/month) for the poor to mediocre services provided. This facility is probably is one of the better facilities in the area. However, my father has been in there for 9 months, only one night nurse for three floors, majority of times, resulting in a few times of his wound care and meds missed, run out of basic food items too many times, can't keep aides/short on aides/as well as nursing staff, few times cook didn't show, have other staff stepping in, providing basic food and are they qualified/certified to handle food? The internet service is spotty and facility is not willing to put the money in to correct it, not good for medical reports that all now require medical transmission. Prices were just raised with all these issues

There have been numerous times where I've debated writing a review, I don't like doing "take-down" posts as I believe that people and businesses can change and deserve second chances. However, this is not the case for The Meadows at Shannondell. A family friend, whom I'm deciding to remain anonymous for his protection and safety, was placed in the care of Shannondell. Throughout his time, he faced brutality from the staff. When his daughter tried to complain, she was also met with rude staff members and horrible customer service. Neither of them wanted me to write this, but for the protection and care for others, I've decided to. Do not, under any circumstances, send your family members here. There are many horror stories that can be told, and my family friend is still very traumatized even after weeks of being discharged from their care. Pick a better home for your family- not The Meadows.

Elder abuse and manipulation, we would not recommend. Left my grandfather in their care after a hip replacement surgery only for him to be in more pain than when he broke his hip. Throughout his stay he has complained several times about being ignored and requests not being heard because he has already been assisted, or that he simply already took his medicine and he is being dramatic. Previous reviews mention negligent staff and management, and I would like to report that years later that is still very much so the case. Uncle Steve’s words not mine, “I rather you’d have sent me out to the meadows instead”.

Facility is well-maintained and beautiful, but you would expect this for the $$ you pay to be here. The nurses and caregivers do the best they can (they are ALWAYS overworked and understaffed), but management is more worried about their reputation than the residents. The residents are bored (and I got to know many of the residents, so this is not just my mom's feedback) and isolated. For example, dinner ends at 6pm and they are more than happy to scurry everyone back to their room. There are NO nighttime activities, breakfast is in their rooms in the morning, so from 6pm until noon the next day, they do NOTHING. They appear to have a lot of activities, but they don't. Many times, we would go to an "activity," and no one was there. They don't encourage residents to get to know one-another, and families are not included in anything. The food is mediocre and the majority of the food service staff is uncaring and rude. Again, this is a VERY expensive place to live. My mom was paying $10K+ per month, plus her downpayment from independent living. When I asked management early on if I could have a meeting with them just to see how my mom was doing, I was told "We don't do that. If you have any specific issues, contact the main nurse." The day-to-day caregivers do their best, but they are treated very poorly by management. It's such a shame. They lost MANY good workers while we were there due to how poorly they were treated. This please could be a gem, but current management is horrible!
