This is a wonderful place. Friendly, knowledgeable staff, the residents are like family. They have a little cafe, salon, activities, and so much more. It’s truly a community in every sense of the word
I toured this amazing community on February 3 2025 . I wanted to move there ASAP .. I tried to think of what they didn’t have available….and …I couldn’t think of anything that was missing.. Everyone was so pleasant - informed me of what was provided. With no pressure. I am interested in retirement apartments. . I feel that I can be very happy there .. Take the tour.. you won’t be disappointed..
I've lived at the Long Community for many years and loved every one!!! I lived at the "old" Long Home untill the New one was built. All 32 of us moved into the 2 floors of the "beautiful" Assistant Living apartments. We moved from having only a bedroom, which was fine, to a lovely handicap accessible apartment. We have an eat in kitchen, which includes a drop leaf table and 2 chairs, micro wave, small fridge with freezer. Loads of cherry cabinets and drawers. Large closet. Going into a large living/bedroom which includes dresser, night stand, small lamp, adjustable hospital bed. Another…

My father has been living at The Long Community in assisted living with memory support for almost 5 months. He is well cared for, the food is very good (I've eaten in the cafe several times), he goes on trips, and the activities are much more stimulating than the place he was prior to moving to Long. He is even allowed to have small pets! The staff are always welcoming, professional and are trained to work with dementia residents. I've observed their patience with my father and other residents and I always feel good when I leave after visiting. If you are looking for a high quality, safe, and very clean community for your loved one that is not bottom line focused (Long Community is a not for profit), visit Long!
I stayed at The Long Community at Highland and I was very satisfied there. It was an independent living community, so I didn't have any care, but it was a very attractive building. It's 10 years old and there were 3 separate buildings. The apartments were very roomy and in a nice location. There was nothing like pools or walking trails or anything like that, but it was right on the edge of Lancaster and it was very convenient. The things surrounding it were restaurants, grocery stores, and postal services. You get a $100 per person per month allowance for the food, but it wasn't as good as it should have been. They had movies every week and they had ladies' night, just ladies get together for dinner. And they were just starting to get some other activities going. The staff was great.
I went to The Long Community at Highland. It was more independent, but they did have a cafeteria. I didn't see any of the community rooms, it looked to me like an apartment building. It was very nice. I met the person that did the tour. I just met the person that did the two wars, I didn't meet anybody other than the young lady that showed us the available unit. She was very nice, answered all our questions, and she was very, very informed. I think it was two or three stories high. It was more like an apartment. We went to see an apartment that they were going to paint and replace the carpet in. We looked at their storage facilities, and their hallway was very nice. It was nice.
I was very surprised here. I had to deliver a repair to one of our patients. Walking in you meet a very nice receptionist. Through the lobby there is a very nice cafe where from the menu, looks to have a nice breakfast and lunch cooked to order. Third floor opens up to a great room with a full catering kitchen. Residents rooms are large and they have nurse on hand full time. Common area is where they have meals and was extremely clean. I would not hesitate to have any of my family live here. Solid choice for later in life
My wife is at The Long Community. I visit there about once a year, and it’s a nice place. Their apartments are really big. It's a new facility, just about three or four years old. The food is good. They have physical fitness activities twice a week, and they have buses that take them on tours, and they go visit different places. The people are friendly there, and they are all about the same age. Overall, it's a nice place, but the design of the apartment isn’t the best. I don’t know if they can change it, but if I were to design an apartment, I wouldn’t design it the way it is. For example, the shower is too big, and it doesn’t have any handrails, and for older people that is very important.
