The staff is top notch service. I would recommend this place to anyone who needs rehab or care.
Even though insurance covered the care of a loved one I wouldn’t recommend this place to an Enemy. The total experience was a complete nightmare. Overall the nurses and aids were terrible (with someone wanting to do their job a huge acceptation.) They were either nowhere to be found or sitting at the desk eating, on their phone, or even sitting on the counter. When asked to take a patient to the bathroom or get them something to drink they would give usually give you a dirty look and say when we can, then go back to talking or their phone. Overall the nurses and aids were terrible (with someone wanting to do their job a huge acceptation.) When asked to take a patient to the bathroom or get them something to drink they would give usually give you a dirty look and say when we can, then go back to talking or their phone. There were times that the patient would wait almost an hour to go to the bathroom and obviously at that point just needed their clothes changed and cleaned up…the lack of care for patient’s dignity was totally disgusting. The only thing that was good was the pt staff, they were great with the patient and showed personal care above and beyond expectations.
A professional, well run facility whose staff is both wonderful to work with and whose treatment of the patients is a joy to see. From coordinating with the Admissions office (Caitlin), who gave a detailed explanation and tour of the facility, to the many Nurses, Therapists and Cooking Staff who are absolute Angels in their dedication and devotion to their work, I am quite pleased with Spruce Manor and definitely recommend this facility without any reservation. Thank you much for everything!
My father in law spent approximately 8 weeks at Spruce Manor on the short term rehab unit. I cannot begin to express the comfort and wonderful communication that we all received. We were met in the unit by smiling staff that welcomed us and took us to his room. The staff member explained each step to us and helped get him settled, even introducing us to other staff on the unit. We were given a list of phone numbers to call with any concerns. Meal times and menu options were explained. Therapy staff even came in the same day to get dad settled into the right sized wheelchair and explain who his therapy team would be and when they would be in to see him. Dad progressed to the point that he was able to return home. Each step of the was was amazing, from admissions, nursing staff, dietary, housekeeping, and social service. We had home care set up and equipment dad needed ready when he got home. The management team was approachable and so involved in the daily care of dad. We will be recommending Spruce Manor to anyone who needs rehab or long stay care. They are truly a 5 star facility!!!
Do not take loved ones here to the first floor. Initial reaction was the sites and smells will floor you, not to mention hard rock playing in the hallways. The food is skeptical at best, and the nurses deliver the trays. Ice chips are given from a single cooler that is administered 1 cup per day without gloves. The rooms are very small and there is zero airflow. Upon arrival there was no introduction and always a question as to who was in charge. Talk to management and get a different answer than what happens after 4pm. Only after complaining about multiple issues did I see some change which I commend management for. The front desk personnel were very pleasant and the most knowledgeable, but after you enter the double doors it was someday like a free for all. No knowledge of what meds are given, no knowledge of who you are being cared for by, no consistency on meals, and no name tags used except for the registered nurses. Waiting for 3-4 hours to use the bathroom is unacceptable anywhere when the avg wait time for 75 year old is 15 minutes. This a a five star facility only by the banners they hang outside. A serious disconnect between management, nursing, and therapy. The therapy lead is new and was most knowledgeable out of everyone involved and hopefully they can install change. I won’t be going back there any time soon.
Do NOT send your loved ones to Spruce Manor. My mother-in-law was there for several weeks and the lack of care, compassion, and professionalism was alarming. When she rang for help to use the bathroom, she was either made to wait for hours or told, “That’s what you have a diaper on for.” That kind of response is inhumane and completely unacceptable. We were there to witness this first hand. Basic hygiene was ignored — staff reached into ice containers without gloves when refilling water for residents. But the most appalling issue was the abuse she suffered at the hands of a nurse. On two separate occasions, while helping her to the bathroom, this nurse kicked the back of her knees and told her to “move faster.” That is abuse, plain and simple. When my husband reported this to a manager, was the nurse fired? No. She was merely told she could no longer help my mother-in-law. That’s outrageous — she should have been fired on the spot. Abuse, neglect and laziness were common themes during our experience with Spruce Manor. This facility is not safe for anyone in need of real care.
The care here is wonderful and therapy fantastic Everyône was very kind to me during my stay. Frances. F
Most of the staff are pleasant. However, there are a few that are verbally abusive. My mother was crying that she wanted to go home after I told her a family member passed away. Meanwhile, staff members were mocking her crying. My brother also had throat cancer and lost his voice. Once again the same staff member was mocking him. I reported this to management but they did nothing. She still works at this facility. Be VERY CAUTIOUS of the 1st floor nursing unit. Please call the Department of Aging and the licensing board. Some of these people shouldn't be allowed in healthcare.
