I also want to acknowledge the nurses, nursing assistants and support personnel who provided excellent care throughout my stay. Everyone treated me with kindness, professionalism and respect. I am grateful. Recovering after a hospitalization is never easy. I've returned to SHPA four times because the teamwork and dedication of the entire SHPA staff made a meaningful difference. I truly appreciate the wonderful care I received and will continue to confidently recommend South Hills Post Acute (SHPA) to anyone in need of rehabilitation services. SHPA is a blessing in my life that enabled me to regain my strength and confidence so that I could return home and "age in place". I am grateful.
This was, without question, the worst healthcare facility experience our family has ever had. I would never recommend sending a loved one here—especially a parent. My mother was admitted for rehabilitation, yet during the nine days she was there, she never received the rehabilitation she was admitted for. A physical therapist finally came to see her after she had already been there for seven days. By that time, she had spent most of her stay lying in bed. What made the situation even more upsetting was that she was often left in bed because no one would help get her dressed or out of bed. There were also times when she was left sitting in urine without being changed promptly. No patient—especially an elderly person—should ever be treated that way. Even more concerning, she was not given her insulin as prescribed. To make matters worse, the attending physician never saw her during her entire stay. The first time I visited her on the second floor, I stepped off the elevator and was immediately met with the smell of urine. That was a major red flag and reflected the overall condition of the facility. After nine days of virtually no meaningful care, we decided to remove her. Instead of facilitating her discharge, the staff delayed the process for hours, telling us the doctor had to see her before she could leave. Our response was simple: **Where has the doctor been for the past nine days?** We felt the delays were unnecessary, so we took her out rather than continue waiting. Based on our family's experience, this facility failed to provide the basic level of care my mother deserved. Our elderly loved ones deserve to be treated with dignity, compassion, and respect. When families entrust a rehabilitation facility with the care of a parent or grandparent, they should be able to expect timely medical attention, prescribed medications, rehabilitation services, assistance with basic hygiene, and a clean environment. One final thought: if the time and energy spent responding to negative Google reviews were instead focused on patient care, I believe this facility's reputation would improve on its own. Great reviews are earned through quality care—not through responses to criticism. Families are trusting you with the people they love most. That trust should always be your highest priority. Sadly, that was not our experience here.
My mom was transferred here in December 2025 from a hospital for rehab. There were so many issues while she was there. Before she could get up on her own to use the bathroom, she was given a bedpan. It was backwards and she kept telling the nurse it was hurting her back. The nurse kept telling her it was fine. She ended up bruising her lower back. Then she was was given a TB test. Fine…but then they came back the same week and did it again. She told them she already had one and they said she had not and proceeded with another test. There were multiple times she pressed the call button and it would take up to an hour for anyone to come by. Her first PT session, the therapist ended up injuring my mom’s neck and then got upset when my mom told her to leave. The day she was discharged was a joke. No one knew anything. First, she was told someone would bring her down to the car. I waited over an hour and finally called inside. My mom pressed the call button and had to wait over 30 minutes before someone came in. The aide came in and said she would check. She never came back in. I ended up calling and spoke to a Jamie or Julie (who was very rude) and she told us we needed to come get her ourselves. My fiance went up to get her because I have arthritis in both knees and it’s hard for me to walk long distances. I called back in while he was getting her and said I needed to speak with management. Of course, she wasn’t available. We finally got her home and settled into bed. I wrote a letter to the PA Department of Health and never heard anything back. My mom kept in touch with her roommate and I can’t believe the horror stories of what she was going through. My mom has since passed and I found a bill from them for $70. I called today to let them know we would be paying it but I wanted to know what the charge was for since the bill didn’t say. Heather immediately told me it was for a haircut. That was NOT true. She looked into it further and finally told me it was her copay for the time she was there. Considering what we went through back in December I looked the claim up through my mom’s insurance to make sure she wasn’t lying. Fortunately, it was her copay and it will be paid. When I called I told them she had passed and I was wanting more info before I paid it. Not once was I told they were sorry to hear of her passing or sorry for your loss. I know she was one of hundreds of patients but there is a thing called compassion. Costco even told me they were sorry for my loss and they didn’t even take care of my mom. Heather seemed to only care about the charges and noting the file. It’s all about the money for them. Don’t trust this facility with your loved ones!!!

They maybe ok with rehab but when you have other serious issues they dot know how to handle them. We had to tell them we wanted an ambulance called and the hospital said good thing we did or it would have been a different outcome.
Sadly, not a nice place. Dirty, wallpaper coming off the walls. My dad was here for a day and a half. Morgan and Kimber were very kind and informative.
My dad was in this facility for 3 weeks before he got a uti. When we noticed blood in his catheter bag the head nurse on duty said it was normal but we fought for our dad and he went to AGH. Other than that nurse...Frieda was so awesome to my dad and his roommate, very kind and attentive. We were very happy at the time and hoped dad would go back, unfortunately he passed in the hospital. This is when the problem started Julie Brookman lied over and over again since January about a refund that we prepaid for his return stay. It was alot of money. Julie repeatedly lied when we were getting the money back...they put the payment through right away. We called every 2-3 weeks and lies after lies. Then she had her manager Heather call and say we will get it in March. March came and went. In April, I called their corporate office in Utah and spoke to Mark in Accounts Payable. Mark told me a check was never requested even though we were told over and over again it was coming. We finally got the check today May 1st. The request for the returned money should have been Monday January 5. We were lied to for 114 days and mourning the death of our dad and my mom's husband plus paying for a funeral during this time. The administration staff is why we would never recommend South Hills Post Acute. As long as you don't deal with them....the lpns and occupational/physical therapy was awesome. Julie should not have a job dealing with money and people.
I can’t say enough about this facility. The staff is kind and caring and always smiling. Julie is amazing! She’s really gone above and beyond to help at a time that has been very difficult for our family. I would highly recommend this facility.
Caring, empathetic staff. Very respectful to family members. As with all facilities, staffing is tough. I never felt that my family member was neglected.
