My friend's mother, who has Alzheimer's, was placed here after a stay in Conemaugh Hospital. My friend has an intellectual disability and is an only child. I have become her guardian, and I take her to visit her mother on the weekends. This place is the most horrific, under-staffed, smelly nursing home in the area. I would not put my dog here. This is an absolutely depressing environment that is full of neglect due to the lack of staffing. If I could give it a zero rating, I would.
If anyone gives this place 5 stars.. YOU ARE LYING !!!!!!!
My loved one does not get to eat if he doesn't eat what they make. No menus, no meal options and the water is left in hallway in a pitcher if they want a drink. They eat in their room or a table facing the wall in the hallway. Room and hallways smell like urine or feces. No social interaction, no music and no activities. The aides (who are not trained for dementia patients) sit in hallway either on their phones, laying on loveseat or watching TV. Seen it all. When state comes in the D.O.N makes everything seem so perfect. Not enough staff so an aide spends the night to sleep and gets paid for…

When state comes in the D.O.N makes everything seem so perfect. Not enough staff so an aide spends the night to sleep and gets paid for it and her room has bed bugs. State should be ashamed of themselves. No one deserves to live like this. If you love your loved one DO NOT PLACE THEM HERE. We did not place our loved one here, the guardian did. Such a sad, depressing place. Should be closed down or new management.
This place is amazing! My father-in-law moved in August 2024. It was a challenge in the beginning, change is hard. He now refers to his private room as his apartment, the residents as his neighbors. Kim and Don are just great with him. They keep me informed on how is doing. I love visiting him and the other residents. Luke was fantastic and helped us navigate his insurance. There is a resident Doctor that checks on him regularly. My FIL likes the food, he's on a shower schedule, clean towels and supplies are always available. They tend to his laundry, cleaning his room. The price is very affordable. They decorate for each season. I've spoken to many residents and they assure me of the great care and dedication they receive from the caregivers. I would definitely recommend Harmony House Manor ❤️
I have not had a positive experience while visiting in the Alzehimer's/dementia unit. I have been in nursing over 40+ years and never had the experience of aides yelling at residents, This facility I have seen this several times by two of the aides. Your aides seem to forget the residents have rights and they ignore them. Also, in any facility I worked at the residents had several selections for their meal selections. This facility it's one person cooking and delivering meals with no selections, so we buy our own food for our resident. You eat what they have or go hungry, so we buy our resident the food but still being charged in the room price. In a dementia unit the residents need stimuli and there is no activities or interaction with the residents. No music or movies. They reside in their rooms 24/7. The aides sit in the hallway on their phones or as I have seen dozing off. I would NEVER refer anyone to this facility.
Mom was left in a chair unattended in a closet that they called a “room”. Wouldn’t recommend anyone send a loved one there. No one checked her throughout the day. She was always unclean and left sitting for hours if not all day in urine soaked disposable underwear.
Overall, things have been good for my loved one at Harmony House Manor!
This is the worst place in Johnstown. If u have any love for your loved ones I’m begging you not to take them here!!!!! They got my mom for 1201.00 that the said they would refund cause I had my mom packed and out of there in 23 hours. She fell and smashed her phone. Took a pic of the broken chair that they have for them to sit on. I have videos of the med cart left in the open. You are never able to find anyone that works there. They should be ashamed of the food they feed them . They have no activities. They are not allowed to sit with anyone to talk. They put a very good front when you come to visit. Oh and this place is suppose to specialize in dementia and Alzheimer’s and the door are never locked. I have video of that also. Very sad that there are places like this still running. And PA do better have a law that a personal care facility has to have nurses 24/7. Shame on you harmany house!!! Shame on you Neal and Sheila Harrison for allowing this!!!! Do better!!!! I have definitely made calls!!!
